How Artists See

The How Artists See series focuses on different aspects of ‘topic’ in art. Throughout the books, the author breaks down the elements of the specific topic to make teaching different topics in the future that much easier and beneficial for students.

The book I focused on was How Artists See the Weather, with subtopics of sun, wind, rain, and snow. For each subcategory, the author provided different facts and famous artist examples. For instance, the sun in art has many different ways of implementation and meanings. When sunlight is utilized it can be to indicate time of day, civilization importance, a mood, or the heat of a scene. Van Gogh was a specific artist mentioned that used sunlight in his art to communicate the importance of time of day and mood to create a scene.

Overall, how each artist interprets the weather is up to individual interpretations. Nature is ever-evolving and changing because of the changes in climate and weather. Because of this art influenced by it will be changing all the time as well.
